Retailer American Apparel (AMEX: APP) will be closing some of its location and firing and unnamed number of employees in an effort to cut costs, according to USA Today. The retailer has not yet said how many employees nor which store locations will be closed. With new CEO Paula Schneider, the company is going through a rebrand and entering a new sales era in an attempt to regain its image. Last year, former CEO Dov Charney was replaced by Schneider amid multiple scandals. Under Charney's leadership over the past five years, the company saw losses of more than $340 million, with $26.4 in the past quarter. "Today's announcements are necessary steps to help American Apparel adapt to headwinds in the retail industry, preserve jobs for the overwhelming majority of our 10,000 employees, and return the business to long-term profitability," Schneider said in a company statement, according to USA Today.
