Consumers in Texas may soon be able to buy hard alcohol at wholesaler Costco, according to The Texas Tribune. Costco (NASDAQ: COST), along with other retail giants like Wal-Mart and Kroger, along with the Texas Association of Business, is supporting a recently proposed bill that would allow the sale of hard alcohol at these types of businesses, according to The Texas Tribune. Currently, Texas outlaws the sale of hard alcohol at publicly traded businesses. The new law, proposed in February by Sen. Kelly Hancock (R) and State Re. Jason Isaac (R), would reverse this law, The Texas Tribune reported. “Costco proudly stands with Texans for Consumer Freedom in its efforts to eliminate the unusual Texas spirits laws that artificially restrict competition and prevent us from directly serving our over 1.3 million Texas members,” Executive Vice President Dennis Zook said, according to The Texas Tribune.
