Social media giant Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) launched a new safety initiative, mixed with old and new elements, in order to better manage its microblogging community of millions of users. The Twitter “safety center” is an online space meant to act as a resource for users that feel their safety on the platform has been jeopardized by another user or users, according to TechCrunch. However, the safety center is not just for reporting harassment, but also gives helpful tips about privacy like strong passwords, for example. “This resource is a result of our work with online safety experts who continuously help us to promote good digital citizenship,” Head of Global Trust & Safety Outreach, Public Policy Patricia Cartes said, according to TechCrunch. With the rise of social media, there’s bound to be problems. Having a community composed of millions of people is not a bad thing, however, due to the sheer size of it, isn’t always going to yield positive results for every user. In terms of creating a safe environment for all users, Twitter’s launch of its safety center is long overdue. Its importance is crucial, however, its lateness has already been noted.
