"The more salt you eat as a child, the more likely you are to have serious health issues in later life," Graham MacGregor, WASH Chairman and professor of cardiovascular medicine at Queen Mary University of London, said, according to CNN Money. Heart disease, high blood pressure and stroke are just some of the negative health effects that can come of excessive salt consumption. According to CNN Money, adults should only be consuming up to one teaspoon of salt daily. As the health food trend continues its upswing, companies, fast food included, has attempted to keep up by making its food “healthier.” However, with statistics that show the high levels of salt still present in these foods, it’s clear the industry still has a long way to go.
