The state of Oregon recently passed a law that will begin offering free community college tuition to high school graduations beginning in the 2016-2017 school year. According to CNN Money, the law requires for students to apply for enrollment in community college up to six months after receiving their high school diploma or GED equivalent. Students will then apply for federal grants and upon receiving them, the government will pick up the rest of the tab. Students must also have lived in the state for at least one year and maintain a GPA of at least 2.5. "Until they get an opportunity, they're likely to be going down a pathway to poverty," Oregon Senator Mark Hass said during a hearing in May. "What this bill does is shows them an opportunity to find a pathway to the middle class." For more business and financial news, click here.
